The Tears of Konoha from Naruto

Wow.

This is an amazing remix, Mythril! It has so much spirit and imagination to it, that I was extremely surprised when I heard it. We've had a very strong showing of Naruto mixing on the site so far, but this mix excels: it's an epic, masterful screenplay-esque remix. It's quite possibly your most impressive mix so far.

The song's subtle progression of mood is a very important part of the piece: yet the song is so cinematic that the tones are more well-described in pictures than words. It starts out resolute, with a strong marching drum and tense strings, then a choir that sounds not sad, but anxious. Then, at 1:22, it makes a wonderful transition into a beautiful almost-happy section, with smooth flowing strings now, and a snare added to the percussion. The sitar-like instrument provides a powerful lead, until another transition makes way for very unexpected yet perfectly-placed vocal samples, which are timed well with the music, and at first sound almost like singing. There is a bit of white noise at this point, the disappearance of which is noticeable and slightly distracting, but it's minimal and the vocal samples are worth it. A lonely piano soon enters into the composition, and is accompanied by brooding violin and what is possibly the best sample in the mix: a beautiful single voice. The timing and velocities on the piano are superb and lend a wonderful strength to its melody. The percussion kicks in and the song subtly transforms from sad to a tone that conjures images of those paying respects to the dead after a battle.

The samples used herein are almost all superb: the first string sound that enters maybe isn't quite right, and the choir doesn't sound perfect: but what choir patch does? The lone female vocal voice sounds amazing though, and some of the other strings are great. The piano is perfect, and the percussive elements are nicely varied and well-used.

Composition-wise, this takes an already-good but simple melody from the Naruto soundtrack and expands it into something more epic, more powerful, and overall incredible. It's a very polished, superb mix; it flows effortlessly for six and a half minutes and never gets dull.

My largest complaint is that the area around 6:20, with the piano arpeggios(broken chords?) seems to be leading into a transition, but the piano fades out and the song ends. Did you run out of energy on this one? It's disappointing, because that piano is really great there. Also, the white noise during the samples as I mentioned before is slightly annoying. But, the timing of the samples couldn't be better, and the clarity is good. Beyond that, the mix is superb. I enjoy the way the ending ties the deep drum (a taiko?) in with the beginning of the song.

Overall, it's a superb, emotional, cinematic remix like you would hear from a movie soundtrack, and expertly done: as a remix, MythrilNazgul, one might say that you have come of age. Personally, though, I prefer to put it more straightforwardly:

This remix kicks ass.

Re: 43 - Mythril Nazgul - Naruto "Tears of Konoha"

:) Thanks!

BORING STUFF
Just to note, this mix was made sometime back in June...ish? Errr, around the time Episode 80 of Naruto came out; I was watching it, and listening to the progression of music throughout the entire funeral episode, and thought to myself: it would be awesome if i could incorporate all the funeral music into one song. After the episode was over, I ripped the audio of the Avi to wav, and began composing. Eight straight hours later, this was finished, and I haven't edited it since.

SO this is it; the funeral song. It is meant to sound as if it is a funeral progression, thus the constant pounding drum and military snare. Since at the time, I had little to no knowledge of EQing and mastering, it shows in this song, and I apologize for that.

All of the samples used are free samples that are available online. The strings are Squid, the choir/female voice is Papelmedia (The Best Free Choral SF - recommended to me by Jeremy Robson), the precussion is Roland Orchestral.

Yeah, I recognized the song immediatelly. I remember that episode well, as it was the last ep of Naruto I watched. You've done the scene well.
