(Gen) Songs Up! - Anime Remix Halloween Competition 2007
Villain Name Cell (Imperfect Cell, Semi-Perfect Cell, Perfect Cell, Super Perfect Cell)
Anime Dragon Ball Z (American) ドラゴンボールZ (Japanese)
Appearance Issue #30
Origin Created by Dr. Gero
Voice Actor(s) Norio Wakamoto
External Links wikipedia | anidb | ann | animenfo
Description Cell was created by Dr. Gero as the perfect warrior based off of samples of the 5 strongest warriors on earth (at that time). Cell has only one unique ability, and that is to inherit abilities of those he consumes. Dr. Gero had anticipated that Android 17 and 18 would have either become or lured out additional powerful warriors for Cell to consume - and released Cell after both Androids caused havoc on the earth. Cell then would then consume 17 and 18 to become the perfect cell as well as any additional warriors. Once he is perfect he can spawn smaller versions of himself via a form of cellular mitosis. Eventually he's able to reach what is equivalent to Super Saiyan 2 and is ridiculously powerful. It's a fun series to watch and I recommend watching it after you have all the episodes (dragon ball series tend to be very long and have slow plot progression).
Theme Song A Perfect Cell
The Remixer Aktulua (Steven Poissant) - Steve Poissant generally has been writing music for some time now. He graduated with a degree in Music Theory in 2005, joined a group called PreKnown which creates Half Life 2 Dragon Ball Z mods as one of their core musicians, and had at least one wip up on vgmix that I heard a while back. He's been in nearly every anime remix competition we've had, his first submission in 2004 was (Princess Mononoke) Pain of a Demon, second was Dyed in Darkness (Naruto), third was (Akira) Death of our Own, and this new song is absolutely phenomenal. You can tell by listening to the previous entries that his skill and sound engineering has come a long way.
The Remix He is Complete, He is Perfect - This song really takes the original piece to the next level. Not only is this a ridiculously spooky piece, but it is bursting with energy and great guitar work. This song is certainly full of tricks and is a wonderful treat.

Name Puppet Master
Anime Ghost in the Shell (Movie)
Origin Programmed Software by an American AI Specialist
Voice Actor(s) Iemasa Kayumi
External Links wikipedia | anidb | ann | animenfo
Description I haven't really seen this anime yet, though I've seen the sequel. So I thought I'd copy some stuff from absolute anime:
anidb wrote:
The Puppet Master case would be the Major Kusanagi's first experience with Project 2501, a program originally devloped by an American AI specialist for Section 6. Project 2501 was an espionage program designed to infiltrate ghosts and implant programs in them for Section 6's strategic advantage. These programs would be implanted as Simulated Experiences (SimEx for short) so the target would not be aware that he or she had become a "puppet".
In the course of Project 2501's exploits, it collected information and gained an awareness; in essence, it evolved. It acquired sentience and became a true electronic life form with its own memory, its own awareness, even its own ghost.
I won't go into it much more since there is a ton of spoilers in the rest of the link - but it seems like an incredibly interesting concept.
Theme Song Floating Museum
The Remixer Avaris - Avaris has been on ocremix and other various remixing sites for some time. He also has been in several competitions and projects here at Anime Remix. He's definitely improved greatly over the last year in terms of composition, sound engineering, and general mixing. He's a great guy to collab with and I can see him being the next big mixer on anime remix or ocremix some day. It's great to have another piece from him.
The Remix A-KIRA - After working with Avaris on the Grave of the Fireflies mix, I know that he's been learning quite a bit about reason. It's absolutely amazing what he's done with reason 4.0 in this mix and I hope you all appreciate the amount of work that is put into the song he's put together. Definitely a solid mix.

Name Mushi
Anime Mushishi
Appearance Everywhere
Origin Life
Voice Actor(s) Various people
External Links Wikipedia | anidb | ann | animenfo
Description Again, another anime I have yet to see. Going to wikipedia this time:
wikipedia wrote:
The story features ubiquitous creatures called Mushi that often display supernatural powers. Mushi are described as beings in touch with the essence of life, far more basic and pure than the grotesque creatures we are accustomed to. Due to their ephemeral nature most humans are incapable of perceiving Mushi and are oblivious to their existence, but there are a few who possess the ability to see and interact with Mushi. The Mushi depicted in the anime look very similar to floaters.
One such person is Ginko (ギンコ, Ginko?), the main character of the series. He employs himself as a Mushi master (蟲師, mushi-shi?), travelling from place to place to research Mushi and aid people suffering from problems caused by them. The series is an episodic anthology in which the only common elements among episodes are Ginko and the various types of Mushi. There is no over-arching plotline.
Theme Song Shinen
The Remixer OverCoat - This guy is one of the remixers that has been supporting the site for quite some time. Very dedicated poster and yet kind of wierd. If you've ever seen a picture of him, he looks like a big teddy bear ^_^;; Anyways great guy, he definitely has a very different musical taste than what I have - but his music is technically sound and deserves a lot of respect.
The Remix The Shinen - Again, one of those very abstract electronica genres but certainly gives a very creepy feeling in the mix. Well engineered and implemented. I hope you enjoy this song as much as I did.

Villain Name Orochimaru
Anime Naruto
Appearance Naruto Episode 27
Origin Human orphan, lust for power made him evil.
Voice Actor(s) Kujira
External Links wikipedia | anidb | ann | animenfo
Description He switches bodies and stuff. He's a pretty awesome guy. Don't really want to give a description at this time - but he basically is the 'big evil badguy' in Naruto.
Theme Song Orochimaru's Theme
The Remixer Xaleph *yours truly*
The Remix ehh didn't come up with a name, but you'll like it

Re: (Gen) Songs Up! - Anime Remix Halloween Competition 2007
Awesome!! They're up now!
Listening to your (Xaleph's) mix as we speak. I am really digging this Orochimaru mix, the voice clip was implemented perfectly and once the main melody came in, I was somewhat reminded of the Halloween movie theme.
And dude, that ending gave me chills... Great job man sounds awesome.
Going to listen to the other two now, not sure how I'm going to vote my song along with the others, but I can assure you I wont give myself the #1 spot (that will probably go to Xaleph). Who knows, maybe I'll give myself #4 just to be nice.
Really liked OverCoat's mix as well. His music always seems to be either Hit or Miss with me (usually Hits). But after listening to him over the years, I've learned that he knows scary and he does scary well. I love that dirty bass you've got there, and once the drum groove kicks in, I get the feeling like I'm walking down a lonely street at night, with only one street light in the distance to light the way. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with this anime so I don't know what the music sounds like, but I guess that means I need to go check it out.
Avaris' mix is SPOOKY! Once again I'm getting that lonely street at night feeling. I can see why you said this kind of sounds like Akira. This is great background music, if we actually had Trick or Treaters in our neighboorhood, I would totally play this song on a loop out on the front porch, so kids would be all creeped out when they come to get thier candy.
Great job to everybody, I love every song here. Now for the hard part, I have to figure out which ones I like more.

Also - I know we have some great graphical artists here. If someone could make "placement" signatures and/or a competition banner that'd be great. I'd supplement the text on the front page with the banner.

Hehe, actually, I didn't know it was suppossed to be a villain's theme either until towards the end. Luckily I just chose Cell's Theme because I like the song, and also because of the DBZ mod that I'm working on.

Didn't matter either way - thought I'd do a writeup. I have no clue who the shinen is, never saw the anime. You can update my post with relevant information about your song if you'd like.

Technically speaking, these are all solid mixes. I'm going to just have to vote on which ones I personally like more. Very subjective, but I guess that's how it usually ends up anyways.

probably should've mentioned a system where you vote for the other three and get yourself an automatic 4th place if you competed.
but it is TOO LATE FOR THAT now everyone will see what egotists you are publically :D
also MAN maybe I should've worked on mine a bit more. I'm pretty impressed with everyone's tunes.

Yeah, that's a good idea. I had a hard time figuring out where I should put my song on the list but then I figured it'd be no fun winning if I didn't put my own song in last.
Not that winning's important anyway, I already got what I came here for - 3 awesome spooky songs and the motivation to make my own for the 4th year in a row. I only wish we could get more people to compete. The more songs the better!

All the entries are awesome IMO. Aktulua Cell remix is hardcore and awesome, even if he does fix some stuff later on (if he does, it could be called "EVEN MORE PERFECT!" - lol DBZ Budokai 3 reference =P). Avaris Ghost remix really sounds like something you might hear in a Metal Gear Solid or stealth type game. SOC's is some creepy chipdisk and Carb always makes great stuff. =)
Hard to choose. XD
