OverCoat announces Rest in peace Nujabes http://pics.livejournal.com/eblanatiger/pic/00002dp6
I learned yesterday that Seba Jun, better known as Nujabes, prolific Japanese hip hop producer, was killed in a car accident in Tokyo on February 26th, the same day the big earthquake hit off the coast of Japan.

Frequents of this site may know him mainly from his work on the Samurai Champloo soundtrack, or collaborating with his close friend Shing02. Shingo had this to say:
"Today, I have very somber news for the international hip hop community, especially fans of the independent hip hop scene, and those who have followed my career.

It has been announced that Jun Seba, aka Nujabes, Japanese hip hop producer extraordinaire, passed away late February. Official statement from the label (in Japanese) here:
http://hydeout.net/hydeout/2010/03/_hyd … tions.html

We deeply regret the loss of a unique talent and a close friend. Through his soulful music, Nujabes has touched so many people around the world, even beyond his dreams. He was a mysterious character to most as he avoided the public limelight, rarely conducted interviews, so only a few got to know the man behind the signature production. Yet it continued to amaze me how young listeners of all backgrounds learned of his enigmatic name, and expressed support for his music.

As I write now from Japan, I had been leaving him messages the past couple of weeks, trying to get in the studio together, so the news could not have come any more unexpected. Even last week, I passed by his house and called him thinking he was still home.

I met Nujabes around 2000 and as an upcoming MC, I was fortunate to work on tracks such as Battlecry, F.I.L.O, Luv(sic) parts 1, 2 and 3. We had been working on the next trilogy of Luv(sic) over the past year (which we’re determined to see through). The last time we talked in January, Nujabes emailed me to wish Jeff Resurreccion, a 19-year old beatboxer who had just passed way from cancer, his heartfelt condolences.

While we continue to respect the privacy of his family, we will work to preserve his legacy, and pay tribute to the body of work, some unreleased, that he has left for us to enjoy. Jun Seba will be dearly missed by his family, friends, colleagues, and fans worldwide.

in peace,
Shing02p"

Couldn't have said it better myself. I will just end the news post with one of my favourite songs:

Dear You by DJGenericName

Slick Remix ワッショイ

Here we have a short but sweet techstep/DnB remix of ”Dear You" from Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni, or ”When they Cry。” Quite an odd anime, switching from mo~e to horror at the drop of a hat. This is a pretty good remix of the tune, my only wish is that it were a couple minutes longer。 Thanks for the submission DJGenericName, hope to get some more material from you soon! Sorry we were so late in posting this. ごめんm(_ _)m

Endless Expanse of Field and Sky by Melody
This remix is professionally made, I love the violin work.  This is our first Escaflowne remix to make it to Anime Remix, and what a treat!  This somehow reminds me of the Chrono Cross Soundtrack.  This fanciful piece takes you across the world that Escaflowne so artistically assembled.  This is a must download for those who liked Escaflowne and like music.

Arabian Nights by Xaleph
I tried to showcase one of the bass/synths in this song, especially since I really liked Aladdin.  I was originally going to work with this guy who I found that did some good guitar work on this song - but he never ended up sending me anything.  Nonetheless I think I put together an alright piece.  The ending was rushed, I do intend on putting up an update once I finish it.

This is the 100th song on Anime Remix - I'm pretty hyped about it ^_^!

OverCoat announces Ladies and gentlemen, the ARHRC2K9 votes are in! I extended the competition but got no extra entries besides Xaleph's. It's a good thing he turned his in because Xaleph is the winner of the Anime Remix Halloween Remix Contest 2009! Hooray for Xaleph! His remix gets the coveted AR #100 slot. 100 remixes already, can you believe it?

Thanks to El Nachato as well for participating - seeing a new face always makes me happy.

OverCoat announces Anime Remix Halloween Remix Competition 2009! http://img199.imageshack.us/img199/2158/windytalesscare.jpg
THAT'S RIGHT FOLKS! It's that time again! Halloween is one month away and Anime Remix needs scary awesome music to post for Halloween!

The rules are simple: Arrange or remix any tune from an anime or cartoon, and make it scary. All songs are due on October 30th, so we can listen to the songs on Halloween, and after that, for one week we will cast our votes for the best song. The winner of the competition gets the coveted REMIX #100 DESIGNATION! How cool is that? I hope to get lots of entries this year, as this is our most popular compo [OK, our only compo] and it's a good time to remind people that we're still around, and hopefully I'll get to see some new faces remixing anime music. When you finish, let me know either by email [overcoat at gmail.com] or by PMing me on the forums, or coming into #soundtempest on irc.esper.net and letting me know what's up.

Good luck!

Tomboy Brawl by Big Giant Circles
What an absolutely marvelous song from Tenchi Muyo!!  Big Giant Circles has composed a splendid piece from the classic anime - one that many otaku still love.  From the guitar work to the composition, this song has the same clarity and professional feel much like the majority of the songs he's composed http://www.biggiantcircles.com/ .   My only gripe is the length of the piece - 2:26 isn't particularly short, but I find myself disappointed when the song ends.  I highly recommend this download and I'm sure you'll enjoy this as much as I have.
