This is one of those cases where the song should have just bypassed the Judges Forum and went straight up on the site. Great piano work, which starts soft and leads into a nice set of string instruments. The build-up and force used in the violins is quite cool and the brass sounds are top notch. For a piece that clocks in over 6 minutes, it retains the ability to really hold you; you just want to hear what's going to come next. By far, the best moments in the piece are found in the violins (which we need more of in the remixing community [HINT TO NO ONE IN PARTICULAR. Heh heh]). Most interesting is how the piece slows down around the 3:30 mark instead of continuously bulding up. And I like the finish. Very solid. This might not be everyone's cup of tea. It's not a flashy, fast paced piece. It has a few odd choices (5:57 kinda bugs me), and some areas could have used a little more 'umph'. A mellow, 'cinema-like' piece, if shows a lot of promise from newcommer Sal. Overall, strong first submission. Recommended. |
